Auto Accident Claims
There are a variety of claims you can make after a car accident. A claim will be based on what happens in a specific accident. For example, a claim will have multiple categories of claims if your car was damaged, or if you, your passengers, or anyone else is injured or hurt, and if you lose wages because you are unable to work as you recover from an accident.
When you make a claim, we encourage you to work with a lawyer who can represent you and help you to navigate the legal system. Claims also typically are related to specific types of coverage, the minimum and maximum amounts available in your policy, and how well you can prove you need the claim to be covered by your insurance, or the insurance of the other person in the accident.
Understanding Common Terms in Auto Insurance Policies
Let’s start with common terms that are important to understand that you will find in a typical insurance policy. Each insurance policy varies so it is important that you look closely at your own policy and coverage.
Coverage:
In most states, there are laws that require basic coverage in multiple areas. We encourage you to talk with your insurance agent about which types of coverage exist in your policy, and what the minimum coverage is. For example, with personal injury protection, a form of coverage, most people in Utah have a minimum of $3,000 per person which will help cover medical expenses if you or your passengers are injured and need medical attention.

Coverage Maximum:
You can also choose to increase your converge amounts when you pick your insurance policy, this does cost more money, but if you are accident-prone, or concerned about medical expenses then it is worth paying for the coverage.

Is FULL Coverage Really Full Coverage?
Often times you hear many people say they asked for full coverage and they believe they have full coverage car insurance. But let’s be clear, full coverage on which component of your car insurance do you have.
In reality, there is no such things as full coverage.
What is full coverage referring too?
This has become an overused marketing term that is used by insurance companies and agents alike. Most of the time “full coverage” means you have basic coverage or insurance that includes all of the different types of coverage you need. This does not mean you have enough coverage or enough to fully cover your expenses if you are in an accident.
The term full coverage can be confused with the idea that since you have each type of coverage in your insurance policy, no matter what happens you are covered and the insurance company “has to take care of it all”. As you select insurance we encourage you to look at what you would need in case you were in an accident, you got injured, and others got injured.
As experts in this area, we have seen many individuals regret that they waived coverage or stuck with the minimum state requirements, which may or may not cover all of your expenses after a car accident.

Why Cheaper Insurance May Not Always Be Better? Is Saving 15% or More Really Worth it?
In this process, you are required by law to sign a document stating that you are waving coverage.
In Utah, many agents wave uninsured or underinsured motorists, which means that if someone hits you and they don’t have insurance, then you can’t even make a claim for the damage with your own insurance.
